LIFE...is not only what you make of it but what you allow others to add to it. We all are the product of who we are, who we meet, and what we experience.
A neurotic is someone who dreams of castles in the sky. A psychotic lives in those castles, and the psychiatrist collects the rent.
To dream the impossible dream takes vision. To make them become a reality takes courage.
Intestinal fortitude takes both: Guts and a 'tude.
To err is human. To REALLY FUCK IT UP, takes brilliance...
and is usually a lot more fun.
When you goof, IMMEDIATELY adopt a look that says...
"This is what I meant to do," and then get the hell out of there.
One of life's biggest dilemmas is the choice one is often forced to make between being serious and being humorous.
I prefer to split the difference.
When one finds oneself enamored with someone and is seriously considering getting serious, look at their mother.
(or father). This is what you will find yourself waking up to down the road. This may very well turn out rightly to be a road you shouldn't travel. Unless you really LIKE bumpy, potholed, and in desperate need of re-paving.
Pairs of words that frequently have the greatest consequences:
I can
I will
I do
I never
I won't
If only
Noooo problem
Does a 'plum job' involve fruit?
Having 'the book thrown at you' can mean that you did something criminal or you're a librarian.
Why isn't whining an olympic sport?
Words to live by: Keep breathing. Avoid dying. & NEVER EVER EVER tell her you think she looks fat in that dress.
NO MATTER WHAT.
A mouth is like a gun. Make sure you got the proper ammunition before firing.
It's probably not advisable to be a varmit if you're married to someone who keeps a loaded rifle by the bedside.
Anyone who says, 'not tonight Dear,' while pointing a loaded pistol at you, probably means it.
A GIVEN: Sex is NOT going to happen for ANYONE who forgets the spouse's birthday, or the anniversary. Not then, not later, perhaps not next week.
Someone who is constantly talking is probably someone who NEVER listens.
When she says 'Honey you are going to get a little surprise,' or 'we are going to have a little bundle from heaven,'
she is probably NOT talking about a SMART car.
Why is it that when you get a large group of people together, sooner or later, their actions and attitudes will revert to the BASEST level of the human condition, all too often. If the most outspoken amongst them seems to be a racist, eventually that will be the core belief of the group. Same with self-serving and self-indulgence...and ALSO sooner or later, one can see a definite evolution into lesser intelligence as the pack or herd mentality takes over. 'THE DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA' has accelerated as the HERD MENTALITY of the loudest voices has drowned out the more reasoned, the ideologically centrist, the brighter minds and the 'thinkers'.
Sometimes, it truly is what the late writer Oscar Wilde once wrote...
"FOR ONE MOMENT, OUR LIVES MET.
OUR SOULS TOUCHED."
Maybe that, in the end, IS all that matters. When you can touch another human being, and BE touched BY them, what greater gift can one give and receive?
It is awesome to be recognized, acknowledged, and cherished by someone...for there is NO greater gift on this planet earth of ours than the gift we are...TO EACH OTHER.
It matters little if my heart is an open book...if no one ever wants to read it. Let your story inspire and bring joy to others.
Life's journey is a process and not just an event. There will be twists and turns, ups and downs, curves and straight-aways. But in the end, perserverance and calm determination will carry you to the end.
Whining is NOT an olympic sport and it should never be one.
Firm resolve to change the things that seem unfair is preferable to merely sitting idly by and complaining. You get NO brownie points for moans. Not even in bed.
If you want to be a part of something, put out your hand in friendship FIRST.
Not having any core principles is like being a ship without a rudder or a plane without a navigator. You may get somewhere eventually, but you may not like where that is and your passengers may be even less amused.
TRUE rugged individualism NEVER forsook the traditional sense of community that is at the heart of American democracy.
When you move to deny the rights of others, beware. Someone bigger and nastier than you is lurking right around the corner and you may very well find YOUR rights up for grabs NEXT.
To deny those who work for you the dignity of a life of opportunity and one capable of being lived beyond mere survival is as reprehensible and immoral as holding a gun to their head in the workplace. In effect, both are of the same mindset.
When I offer you my hand in friendship, you get my heart as a bonus. My mind comes with it too. My compassion and caring are part of the total package. In other words, you get ME. That's what being 'FRIENDS' really means. To have one, BE one.
I would go to jail with a friend. But any friend who would let me go to jail FOR them ISN'T one.
I would take a bullet for my friend. But NOT if he wouldn't take one for me. It's a two-way street and bullets go both ways.
Stopping a friend from jumping off a cliff is one thing. Being thrown over a cliff BY a friend is something else.
If my tombstone is to be restricted to two words, those two words would be... 'HE LOVED' or 'HE CARED'
When I hear someone say that I am the most giving person they know, I know I'm the one picking up the check.
DO NOT help someone or give to them for the reward you think may be waiting for you if you do. Help or give for the difference you are making in the life of someone else by doing so. If you do the former, that is the reward. If you do the latter, your reward will be here and now and eternally.
If you want to walk in the light, BE the light. Then others can join you.
Absence may, it is said, make the heart grow fonder. But it sure keeps the bedsheets colder.
Loving someone you know you can never be with is hard, and sad. Not loving someone who needs your love is worse for both of you.
Don't ever confuse sex with love. Sex is fleeting, love is eternal. Sex lasts an hour if you're lucky. Love can last forever. Choose wisely.
NEVER throw anyone under the bus who is hanging onto you. Tightly.
Even when your heart is rejected, never let it be turned off. The heart controls the lights and the heat and living in a cave for your entire life only works for Bats.
If you give a fish to a man, he will eat for a day. If you take him fishing with you, you will at least have plenty of bait...and perhaps a friend who will now know how to fish for himself. That in and of itself is a reward that is priceless.
I love when people talk about having a cardinal rule and you can tell right off that they are neither Catholic NOR a bird.
If you want to be in a successful relationship, be with someone who won't stay mad at you, who can't stand not talking to you, and who's afraid of losing you.
I'm all for standing up and being counted. However, when I stood up I got dizzy...(being drunk will do that to you), and I never was any good at math.
Not wearing a condom (or wearing one with a hole in it) is kinda reproductive.
I was gonna be a freedom fighter. However, I just had my hair and nails done. I was gonna be an organizer, but organization...drat. Where are those notes?
My fave part of the Bible is where David blew Goliath's ass away with an assault rifle and a 100 clip magazine. Absolute fave. Another fave is the Sermon on the Firing Range. Dead on.
"You're so cute when you're mad." "Yeh, well I am about to get REAL adorable."
My life is like a jigsaw puzzle you bought at a yard sale.
Be yourself cause everyone else is taken...and nobody else wants that job anyway.
Those people who don't immediately tell you all about themselves often turn out to be the ones who have the most interesting things to say, and the most valuable lives to learn about.
Principles are not just people in charge of schools. Principles are the things we learn that can be used as teaching tools to help ourselves and others to navigate life.
Smart people learn from their mistakes. They still fuck up but they're better at it. More creative.
